Domestic violence doesn’t always look the same. It can include physical violence, threats, emotional manipulation, financial control, and more. If you’re experiencing any form of abuse, you are not alone—and there are legal protections available to help keep you safe.

At Next Chapter Legal Services, we work with individuals across Goulburn and the Southern Tablelands to provide discreet, trauma-informed legal assistance in domestic and family violence matters.

What Is an ADVO?
An Apprehended Domestic Violence Order (ADVO) is a court-issued order designed to protect someone from violence, threats, or intimidation from a partner or family member.
An ADVO can:
  • Prohibit the abuser from contacting or approaching you
  • Prevent them from attending your home, workplace, or children’s school
  • Protect your children and other family members

How Do I Apply for an ADVO?
You can apply through:
  • The police (who may do so on your behalf)
  • A private application through the Local Court
Our team can assist with the application process, represent you in court, and ensure your voice is heard in a safe and respectful way.

Support Beyond the Legal System
We can also help connect you with local support services including shelters, counselling, and emergency financial assistance.
If you’re unsure where to turn, start by calling Next Chapter Legal Services. We’ll listen, we’ll guide you through your options, and we’ll fight to keep you and your family safe.
